Is the text still selectable?
No. This is a per-page image rebuild, the same pipeline redaction uses, so text becomes part of the picture. Keep the original for editing and use this copy for printing.
Does it reduce file size?
Often yes, because color information is dropped, but it depends on the source. For size-focused jobs use the compress tool, which offers lossless and strong modes.
Why would I need a grayscale PDF?
Many printers are grayscale anyway: printing a color PDF on them dithers colors into muddy patterns. Converting first gives clean neutral grays, saves color ink on mixed setups and is required by some submission portals.
Are pages cropped or resized?
No. Every page keeps its exact dimensions and orientation; only the colors become shades of gray.
